Welcome to the VOCES module. Here you will hear some Latinos like you who introduce themselves and talk about their lives in the United States. As you listen to them, you will see that language, its use, and the perspective of the user all have quite a bit to do with cultural influences. When you listen to them for the first time, you should try to reflect on the words that you hear. Then you will have an opportunity to think about what you heard and to analyze a little of the oral discourse of each of the students. You should pay careful attention to the thematic and linguistic details in each of the examples. Following the guide that we provide for you, you should think about your own voice and how you would introduce yourself. More importantly, why do you think that you use language the way you do?
