Instructional Design

The NFLC's instructional designers work closely with the Second Language Acquisition unit, the Curriculum and Materials Development unit, and other experts, as well as the Information Technology and Multimedia and Creative units to design, develop, and deploy effective training systems and reference tools for the NFLC staff, consultants, and external audiences. These engaging and highly interactive products include media-rich e-learning modules, computer-based training modules, electronic job aids, distance learning courses, and classroom-based workshops.

Instructional designers employ a rigorous, systematic approach to their work based on proven Instructional Systems Development (ISD) methodologies, including the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model, a scientific prescription for developing learning materials targeted to audience needs and organizational performance objectives that assures measurable and replicable performance results. They also keep abreast of the latest research on learning and cognition, human performance, second language acquisition, and emerging trends in e-learning and educational technology to ensure that all instructional products reflect best design practices and are valid, effective, and task-based.
