Sociologist John Robinson Joins NFLC

June 1, 2001 Sociologist John Robinson Joins NFLC Richard D. Brecht, Director of the NFLC, announced today that Professor John P. Robinson of the University of Maryland will join the staff of the NFLC as Adjunct Associate for Survey Research. Robinson, professor of Sociology at the University of Maryland, is the founder of the University's Survey Research Center and, in addition, led the planning that resulted in the establishment of the doctoral program in survey methodology. He currently directs a $2.7m NSF grant to examine Americans' use of time, via an internet-based survey.

Commenting on the Robinson appointment, Center Director Brecht observed that "Professor Robinson's presence at the NFLC will allow us to expand our research capabilities into new areas, including international comparative analyses of language data, while significantly upgrading the quality and reliability of all of the research we do." Robinson, who has previously assisted NFLC with its surveys of heritage language programs and of professional licensure organizations, will expand his work into the EELIAS project and the Center's policy research, while maintaining an advisory role on the full range of NFLC research projects.
