International Education Week, November 13-17, 2000

Friday, November 3, 2000

President Clinton's April 19, 2000 Memorandum on International Education Policy calls for the United States to "ensure that its citizens develop a broad understanding of the world, proficiency in other languages, and knowledge of other cultures." Following the Presidential directive, U.S. Department of Education Secretary Richard Riley and Department of State Secretary Madeleine Albright have designated November 13th through the 17th as International Education Week. NFLC welcomes this occasion as an especially appropriate time to call attention to the importance of international education and heightened awareness of other languages and cultures.

A list of possible activities for International Education Week, a sample press release, a sample op ed piece, a needs indicator sheet, and a resource list with related links have been prepared by the Coalition for International Education.
