NFLC announces First Policy Forum

Wednesday, September 1, 1999

The first session of the 1999 NFLC Policy Forum: "The National Commission on Federal Language Needs" will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 1999 in the Rome Building of the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. The forum will be chaired by Richard D. Brecht, Director, NFLC; Glenn H. Nordin, Director of Training Policy, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for C3I. They will lead a discussion on the need for a national commission to investigate language needs. In 1979, President Carter convened a commission to examine the state of language and international studies. Globalization, democratization, and the information revolution create unprecedented language requirements with regard to national security. How should the nation ascertain what those requirements are?
