LangNet

LangNet is a state-of-the-art online foreign language learning and maintenance system developed by the NFLC. This system is offered free of charge to foreign language faculty, administrators, and students at U.S. institutions.

LangNet materials include practice in reading and listening in the following languages:

The system is designed for foreign language learners who generally range from advanced beginners to near native speakers (i.e., proficiency levels ILR* 1+ TO ILR 4). While the materials are developed primarily for maintenance and enhancement of language skills outside an instructional setting, we encourage their use in conjunction with language courses.

Due to copyright restrictions, LangNet is offered free of charge only to U.S. academic institutions, their faculty, and students of foreign languages and government employees.

To access LangNet, academic users must apply for an organizational subscription for their intstitution/program by emailing langnetsupport@nflc.org with the following information:

  • Title of institution
  • Contact Person at the institution (who will manage the accounts and be the point of contact)
  • Contact information (address, telephone number, and email address)
  • Anticipated number of intended users (students and others)

When the account is created, the contact person will email you the account information and instructions for creating user accounts.

In exchange for accessing these materials, we request feedback on LangNet products' usability and effectiveness.

*The Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Scale is a set of descriptive rubrics that attempts to capture the types of language knowledge, as well as paralinguistic knowledge, speakers of a foreign language should have at each of five levels.
